"Turkeys Gone Wild"

The 2nd Grade has been busy with a cornucopia of Thanksgiving artwork.  Turkey's are taking over the Media Center and flocking to the bookshelves, taking their spot on top for all to see.

Mrs. Gerken and the 2nd Graders also put together a beautiful cornucopia to hang in the church entrance for Thanksgiving.  Be sure to stop by and admire their efforts and let them know what a good job they did.

Students also had the opportunity to be in a video (always very cool) and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.  We apologize for some of the jerky motion in the video.  Enjoy!

Team Emma

Click Here to See the Panthers working for Team Emma (movie has sound)

The 5th and 6th Grade PAL Volleyball Team sponsored a fundraiser with Team Emma for the American Cancer Society.  Emma Miller is an 11 year old young lady that has had cancer since she was three.  She has always wanted to play volleyball, but due to the cancer has never had the opportunity.

Coach Laura and Kari Ridder were able to get a fundraiser set up at a Midland University Volleyball game on October 20th.  The girls made posters and stood out in the lobby encouraging people to give to the American Cancer Society and Team Emma.  There were lots of smiles and anticipation as they waited to see if Emma was able to make it to the game.  Composure and restraint were nearly impossible once they saw Emma come into the gym with Coach Laura - they did great and did not overwhelm her.

The Midland Warriors presented Emma with a t-shirt and poster, while the Panthers assisted with a serving contest.  The girls raised a total of $143.00.

Veterans Day

Today we had the privilage of Honoring
All Who Served the United States of America.  The day started off with a visit
from State Senator Charlie Janssen and the local VFW Honor Guard who
displayed how to properly fold the American Flag and then ended with a 21
Gun Salute.  Our own Mr. Garmon, an Army Veteran played Taps for us.

Melony Fiala and Elisa Dorsey read their essay's on "Does Patriotism Still Matter", they did an awesome job.  Congratulations to both girls for standing up in front of everyone to read their essay's without getting too nervous!

One Day a Pickle. . . .

The 3rd Graders had a great time creating their own story. Each had the opportunity to add a word or phrase to their story.

And Now. . . . One Day A Pickle?

One day a pickle was driving and fell into pickle juice.  It was sweet pickle juice, then he drank it and spit it out and turned purple.  People packed and broke out.  Then he turned pink.  He was happy.  Then he turned orange.  He turned into an orgre and grew dredlocks.  Then Superman came and batman and pushed each other over.  The orge ran away.  They played connect 4 and won the superbowl.  The score for Pin the Tail on the Ogre was 50 ouches to 40 ouches.  Then they played dodgeball and nobody won.  The Ninja met a talking beaver.

Adopt-a-Shelf Program Begins

Adopt-a-Shelf

This program is starting with the 7th and 8th Graders, after evaluating how effective the program is, it will be extended to 5th and 6th Graders.  The long term goal is to have 5th through 8th grade volunteer for this program.

How the program works:
Students volunteer to select a shelf in the media center that they will keep organized, faced neatly, select a
book to recommend and write a review for.  Students will work the shelf at least once a week (should only
take 5 - 7 minutes total time) for a total of 10 times.  The shelfs will be rated by the Library Committe and
awarded one to five gold stars depending on accuracy and neatness.

After completeing their turn, each student will receive a personal pan pizza, soda, and be allowed to have
lunch in the media center as a group or individually.

7th Grade Adopt-a-Shelf Volunteers

8th Grade Adopt-a-Shelf Volunteers

The Long Term Goal:
Students will have a solid understanding of how libraries are structured and will be able to find books in a public or school library with ease.

6th Grade Artwork on Display

The 6th Grade is Proud to Present

Please feel free to stop by the Media Center to view the awesome examples of

Calling all Dads!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

During library time, we take a few moments to read a book.  Even the 8th graders enjoy having a good book read to them.  We have many wonderful volunteers that read to the students, however, they are ALL moms.
Mom usually thinks reading is cool, encouraging kids so they might decide it is worthwhile. When dad also jumps on the bandwagon, the kids start to really think there must be something to this reading thing. The more people that seem interested in reading will keep reinforcing that reading is something important and enjoyable.

We would like to ask Dad's or even Grandpa's to come in and read to a class.  Pick the class.  Contact the library volunteers and we will select a book, unless you have a favorite to read.

The Library times are listed below.  Times and days can be subject to change depending on field trips or other events.  Give us a call or e-mail the library to work out a time.

STAR WARS COLLECTION

The Force is strong at the Trinity Media Center this week.  Several new Star Wars books have been added to the library, along with a few Star Wars books borrowed from Keene Memorial Library.

There are also some really fun Star Wars coloring pages for the students to take home and color.

May the force be with you!
